Qualifications

• Three years of law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train and evaluate all subordinate police personnel.
• Patrol campuses and meet with officers at locations to discuss concerns and performance.
• Approve/disapprove subordinates' time entries, overtime, and leave requests; help schedule staff.
• Review and document reports and campus incidents; ensure timely and accurate records.
• Investigate misconduct with internal or outside agency coordination; pursue investigations to resolution.
• Patrol areas on foot or by vehicle; respond promptly to calls for assistance and support colleagues.
• Identify, pursue and arrest suspects; monitor and investigate suspicious persons.
• Evaluate emergency requests to determine appropriate response and relay to the proper agency.
• Photograph or diagram crime scenes; testify in court as needed.

Job Function

Employee performs supervisory tasks while serving as a site or shift supervisor and overseeing the full range of police services. Provides for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property. Enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws and promoting good community relations. This vacancy is being posted internally as a Promotion to permanent classified employees from the Campus Police Department at Delgado Community College.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of law enforcement experience.

Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties

• Responsible for the overall supervision, training and evaluations of all subordinate police personnel. Responsible for patrolling all campuses and meeting with officers assigned at each location to discuss and monitor campus concerns and or job performance.
• Approves/Disapproves subordinates time entry, overtime and leave requests. Plans and coordinates with other shift supervisors the schedule of Police Personnel to ensure that sufficient manpower is utilized at all times.
• Competently utilizes computer and writing skills and in doing so ensures that all reports and campus related incidents are efficiently reviewed and recorded properly
• Issues and documents disciplinary action as needed for police personnel Internal misconduct violations.
• Provides investigative skills by utilizing any and all means of in-house resources in addition to coordinating with any outside agencies to thoroughly investigate to conclusion, any crimes, persons or allegations of misconduct on behalf of the college.
• Patrols specific areas on foot or motorized conveyance, responding promptly to calls for assistance and in support of other police personnel.
• Identifies, pursues and arrests suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts. Monitors, notes, reports and investigates suspicious persons.
• Evaluates complaint information and requests for emergency services to determine and provide appropriate response and aid. Relaying complaint and emergency request to the appropriate agency or individual.
• Photographs and or draws diagrams of crime or accident scenes and interviews witnesses. Testifies in court to present evidence or act as witness in traffic or criminal cases.
