Job description

The Suwanee Police Department will be recruiting for a Police Recruit with interviews in September. The Police Recruit is a non-sworn position responsible for participating in a comprehensive training program to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to become a certified Police Officer for the City of Suwanee. Under close supervision and guidance from training staff and experienced officers, the recruit will attend academy sessions, participate in practical exercises, and learn the principles of law enforcement, community policing, and public safety.

The Police Recruit will be attending the Police Academy in January 2027. Interviews will occur in September with the intentions of having the candidate complete background and begin working in November / December 2026.

The City of Suwanee provides police service 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays, is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Attends and actively participates in all required training sessions at the police academy, which may include classroom instruction, physical fitness training, defensive tactics, firearms training, emergency vehicle operations course (EVOC), first aid/CPR, legal updates, and procedural training.
  • Studies and comprehends all assigned materials, including laws, ordinances, departmental policies, and procedures.
  • Develops and demonstrates proficiency in essential law enforcement skills, such as communication, de-escalation, problem-solving, report writing, evidence handling, and arrest techniques.
  • Successfully complete all required physical agility tests and training exercises.
  • Participates in practical exercises and simulations designed to apply learned concepts and skills in realistic scenarios.
  • Adheres to all rules, regulations, and standards of conduct established by the police department and the training academy.
  • Successfully completes all required written examinations, practical skills evaluations, and performance assessments.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor, appearance, and attitude at all times, both on and off duty, reflecting the high standards of the Suwanee Police Department.
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct in all aspects of training and personal life.
  • Participates in community-oriented policing activities as time permits with the police academy and as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent; college degree preferred

Successful completion of the pre-employment process, which includes oral interview, background check, criminal records and traffic history check, medical and drug screening, psychological evaluation, and polygraph evaluation.
