Job summary

The Chula Vista Police Department is seeking motivated individuals for the Police Recruit role, the entry-level path to becoming a Peace Officer. Recruits will train in the academy, learning defensive tactics, weapon handling, and driving, and will advance to Peace Officer upon graduation.

Compensation includes a monthly salary and a relocation stipend. The department also offers an employee referral program for eligible referrals.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 20 years old at time of application and 21 years of age at time of appointment.
• Valid California Driver's License at time of appointment.
• Must meet citizenship requirements under California Government Code Sections 1031(a) and 1031.5.
• Education: high school diploma/GED or attainment of a two-year or four-year degree.
• College coursework in Police Administration and/or Criminal Justice is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Learn and participate in classroom and field activities while attending the police academy.
• Write/type reports and complete assignments.
• Participate in daily physical training at the same intensity as the group or as directed by staff.
• Run up to six miles at an eight minute/mile pace.
• Perform up to sixty sit-ups and sixty push-ups.
• Spar with training staff and/or fellow recruits.
• Fire weapons and drive vehicles.
• Talk on radio.
• Learn about community-based policing and collaborative problem solving.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and the public.
