The City of Long Beach is seeking Police Recruits to undergo training at the Long Beach Police Academy. Candidates will learn essential skills in law enforcement, community relations, and emergency response. This role emphasizes integrity, effective communication, and a service-oriented attitude. The position offers recruitment incentives including a hiring bonus and housing subsidies.

This classification qualifies for Recruitment Incentives including a $6,000 hiring bonus, and $1,000 a month in housing and/or childcare subsidies for a total of up to $54,000. Note: Completed applications (when test scores are received) submitted after March 29, 2024, will be considered for Academy Class 100, scheduled for Summer 2025.
Under supervision, develops minimum qualifications for a police career; receives training at the Long Beach Police Academy, which covers policies, law, physical fitness, use of firearms, arrest procedures, community relations, and emergency vehicle operation; observes sworn officers and may perform support functions like traffic and crowd control during training.
Candidates qualifying as Police Recruits will be invited to an orientation. The academy is CA POST accredited and covers topics such as policies, cultural awareness, leadership, ethics, community policing, law, crisis intervention, de-escalation, defensive tactics, and more. Support functions may also be performed during training.

Proof of requirements is required at the conditional offer stage, not at application.
Additional desirable qualifications include recent college coursework and bilingual ability (Spanish, Khmer, Tagalog).
Application and supplemental application: Qualifying. Written exam: Qualifying. Applicants choose between NTN or PELLETB exams. Scores within the last 12 months are valid. Veterans and disabled veterans receive additional points. Details on scheduling and scoring are provided.
