We are recruiting for a full-time Police Officer position in Danbury, CT. WCSU has two campuses in Danbury - the Midtown campus, located at 181 White Street and the Westside campus, located at 43 Lake Avenue Extension. The University Police Department is located on the Midtown campus and serves both campuses.

Position Requirements:

  1. Full-time availability to work ALL SHIFTS.
  2. The incumbent will be responsible for the full range of Police Officer duties.
  3. Applicants must be a Certified Police Officer in the State of Connecticut OR be eligible to be certified by CT-POST by being a certified police officer in another state.

Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work)

In a state agency, college or university this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the protection, safety and security of individuals and property with full police powers and responsibility for law enforcement.

Examples of Duties

The Police Officer may perform a combination or concentration of the following functions:

  1. Security: Provides crowd control, monitors designated areas, gives directions, participates in evacuation activities.
  2. Protection: Provides traffic control, assesses assistance needed, responds to emergencies.
  3. Enforcement: Directs traffic, conducts investigations, questions witnesses, arrests individuals.
  4. Administration: Records information, processes paperwork, provides court testimony.

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience

Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of Connecticut pursuant to regulations promulgated by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States by date of appointment. Candidates are subject to selection standards and must possess and maintain certification as a law enforcement officer in Connecticut.

Character Requirements

A thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for appointment.

Physical Requirements

Incumbents must have general good health and possess sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform the duties of the class.

Working Conditions

Incumbents may be exposed to unpleasant and/or dangerous situations which could cause injury or loss of life.
