TESTING DETAILS:
Physical Fitness Test: The physical fitness test (PT) will be held September 6, 2023, at the Provo High School indoor track (1199 Lakeshore Drive, Provo, UT). Exercise clothing is recommended, and you must bring a photo ID. If you have passed this test in the last 3 months, and wish to be excused from it, you must email your scores to recruit@provo.org prior to the closing date (September 1, 2023) . The PT test matches the Utah POST entrance requirements, which entails the following:
Vertical Jump (at least 15 inches)
Push-Ups (at least 16 Reps - Maximum repetitions with no time constraint and no rest during this phase of the test)
Isometric Plank (held for one minute)
1.5 Mile Run (in 15 minutes and 37 seconds or less)
Written Test: Candidates who pass the PT will advance to the written test, the National Police Officer Selection Test (NPOST), later that same day, in September. The exam will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Police Training Room on the 3rd floor of the Provo City Center (445 West Center Street, Provo, UT). Candidates are invited to wear casual, comfortable clothing. You must again bring a photo ID to check in. If you have passed the NPOST in the last 6 months, and wish to be excused from it, you must submit your scores to recruit@provo.org prior to the closing date (September 1, 2023) .
Oral Interview : Candidates who pass both the physical and written exams will be notified within 7 days and scheduled for an interview. Interviews will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Those who pass the Oral interviews will be invited to interview with Command Staff on Thursday, September 14, 2023. No remote interviews will be conducted.
Candidates who have served on active duty in any branch of the United States Military for at least 6 months can submit their form DD-214 to recruit@provo.org prior to the closing date (September 1, 2023) to receive preference points in the testing process.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Pay Rate: Starting at $27.67 per hour.
Essentials Duties:
Enforce all State of Utah, Provo City, and Utah County laws
Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle, motorcycle, or foot to discover, control, and/or prevent violations of the law
Respond to life-threatening and property-threatening calls, emergencies, and alarms
Actively seek out and detect criminal activity including observing suspicious persons, vehicles, or situations and taking proper and legally sound actions; secure crime scenes
Investigate complaints, traffic accidents, and crimes by interviewing suspects, witnesses, prisoners, and victims; gather and organize intelligence in a logical manner
Prepare, compose, and submit reports of sufficient quality to be used in a court of law or as a basis for further investigation or intelligence gathering
Arrest suspects by proper and approved methods; apprehend, restrain, and control persons by using reasonable force
Maintain security of prisoners and escort them from crime scenes to jail, court, or other assigned areas
Respond to inquiries or complaints
Testify in court or at hearings when subpoenaed
Render first aid; assist the public; may deliver emergency messages including notifying families of fatalities
Control crowds; intervene in crisis situations
Mediate civil complaints; serve warrants and subpoenas
Educate the public in crime prevention
Assist other staff members as needed
Perform other related duties as required
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
A valid, lawful Driver License.
Applicant must be 21 years of age at time of testing
United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States (who has been in the United States legally for 5 years and has legal authorization to work in the United States).
Applicant must obtain Utah State Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Law Enforcement Officer Certificate during probationary period.

Regular Appointment-Career Series Advancement Path:
Pay range for the full police officer career series is $57,553 - $91,790 annually ($27.67 - $44.13 /hr)
Typical merit progression upon meeting advancement criteria:
Hire: $27.67 per hour
Year 1: $28.36 per hour
Year 2: $29.80 per hour (assumes advancement to Officer II)
Year 3: $30.54 per hour
Year 4: $31.31 per hour
Year 5: $34.51 per hour (assumes advancement to Senior Officer)
Year 6: $35.38 per hour
Year 7: $37.17 per hour
Year 8: $38.10 per hour
Year 9: $39.05 per hour
Year 10:$42.00 per hour (assumes advancement to Master Officer)
Year 11:$43.05 per hour
Applicants with previous law enforcement experience that otherwise do not qualify for a lateral transfer appointment may be placed up to $36.31 per hour based on their level of relevant experience and qualifications. Officers with at least five years of law enforcement experience may be eligible to advance to the Senior Officer Level one year after being hired as a Provo Officer.
