Job summary

Berkeley Police Department is seeking candidates to become Police Officers by joining as a Police Officer Recruit. You will attend a POST-certified academy to receive education and training in laws, search and seizure, crime prevention, and more.

Upon graduation, you will be sworn in as a Police Officer and assume the duties of that position. Applicants must meet extensive requirements, including age, education, legal work status, background checks, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to

Qualifications

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must pass background and suitability checks.
• Must have a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must meet physical, psychological and background standards.
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.
• Must be able to obtain POST certification and firearms qualification.

Responsibilities

• Attend a POST-certified academy to receive training for the Police Officer role.

• Participate in the written and performance exam process as part of recruitment.
