Job summary

The City of Vernon is seeking a Police Officer Recruit to establish an eligibility list for the Vernon Police Department to be used for future vacancies. This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time with or without prior notice. Under close supervision, recruits will attend a POST basic training academy to obtain California Peace Officer Certification.

Education includes a High School Diploma or GED; is 21+ and a U.S. citizen or eligible permanent resident.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must complete a comprehensive background investigation including a polygraph.
• Must meet POST academy medical and physical ability standards.

Responsibilities

• Attend classroom training to obtain State Peace Officer Certification.
• Complete written, oral and skills proficiency examinations.
• Participate in physical conditioning training and testing.
• Adhere to CA POST academy rules and regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
