City of Gainesville, GA is offering a trainee police officer position, providing formal P.O.S.T. certified academy training under supervision.
Trainees progress to a Field Training Program with a 5% pay increase after academy completion and a subsequent change in pay grade when promoted to Police Officer. Non-certified candidates start at base pay with additional paid holidays; certified status increases hourly wages and career progression.
Under direct supervision of the Training Director or his/her designee, incumbents perform a variety of non-sworn law enforcement duties, which may include, but not limited to, familiarization with policies of the Gainesville Police Department, familiarization with the primary duty weapon of the department, and attend a formalized Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified police academy in preparation for employment as a Police Officer and perform related work as required. Upon successful completion of the police academy, trainees will be placed into a Field Training Program and will be given a 5% increase in pay. Upon successful completion of the department's Field Training Program, the trainee status will be changed to that of a Police Officer with a change in pay grade. Candidates who do not successfully complete the required Police Academy training will be terminated.

STARTING SALARY (NON-CERTIFIED): $50,559.60 (BASE) + 10 PAID HOLIDAYS ($2020.00) = $52,579.60
Note: Minimum hourly rate for non-certified is $24.30hour, based on 2080 annual hours. Once applicant graduates from the academy and becomes certified, applicant will then move up to the minimum hourly rate of $27.93/hour, based on 2184 annual hours.
