Description

SIUE Police Services is currently seeking to fill vacancies for LATERAL TRANSFER Police Officer(s) through open recruitment. The SIUE Police Department is a community-oriented law enforcement agency that comprises certified law enforcement officers and civilian employees. They have full investigatory and arrest powers granted by Illinois law. The department is open and accessible to the university community 24/7, with its own telecommunication unit. The SIUE Police Department operates with the philosophy of providing a safe and secure campus environment, which includes conducting routine patrols and enforcing criminal and traffic statutes of Illinois. The primary responsibility of SIUE Police Officers is to protect life and property through enforcement of laws, ordinances, and University rules and regulations. They also provide various service-related needs for the university community, such as safety escorts and vehicle lock-outs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol University communities (Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton) by car or on foot.
  • Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.
  • Respond to requests for non-enforcement service assistance to the University Communities.
  • Identify, investigate, and report hazards that might endanger public safety or University spaces or equipment.
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Perform other duties supporting the department’s mission and goals.

Work Schedule: Due to the professional responsibilities, shift assignments and workdays will vary, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be able to work at all three campus locations: Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of full-time sworn law enforcement experience.
  • Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) or eligibility for certification.
  • No suspension for disciplinary reasons from previous employment.
  • No more than three (3) years break in law enforcement service.
  • Successful completion of background checks, polygraph, psychological, medical, and drug screening.
  • Probationary period of 12 months upon hire.
