The City of Hanford is seeking to fill vacancies in the Police department. This position involves performing general law enforcement duties on an assigned shift, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, and promoting community order and safety through the preservation of public peace and crime prevention.
This is the journey level sworn Police Officer class. Incumbents initially perform routine duties under close supervision, but are expected to perform the full range of duties with increasing independence as they gain experience.
Essential duties include patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls, investigating hazards, making arrests, mediating conflicts, gathering evidence, enforcing traffic laws, conducting investigations, writing reports, administering roadside sobriety tests, serving on task forces, and fostering positive community relationships.
Knowledge of: California law enforcement practices, investigative techniques, relevant laws, crowd and traffic control procedures.
Ability to: Assess situations, understand law enforcement duties, analyze reports, identify suspects, interpret laws, conduct surveillance, problem-solve, communicate effectively, and operate police equipment and vehicles.
Completion of a POST-approved basic academy and a high school diploma or equivalent.
Valid California driver’s license, POST certification, CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and ability to pass background checks.
Selection involves assessments, written exams, and interviews. Eligible candidates are placed on a certification list. Notifications will be provided throughout the process.
