The City of Bothell's Bothell Police Department seeks experienced officers for lateral entry, offering a recruitment incentive of $50,000. Hiring includes $30,000 on hire and $20,000 after successful probation, with opportunities in specialty assignments and a 28-day cycle of fourteen 12-hour shifts.

There are opportunities for lateral movement and training for specialty assignments such as: ALERT Team (Riot Control), Crime Analysis, Detectives, Field Training Officers, Firearms Instructors and Armorers, Hostage Negotiation Team and Training Instructors, Narcotic K-9 Officer, School Resource Officers, Special Response Team (SWAT), and Traffic and Motors Officer.
Patrol officers get a 3-day weekend every other week! Patrol officers work fourteen 12-hour shifts, either days or nights, within a 28 day cycle.

Test scores are reviewed on a regular basis and you will be notified by the Bothell Police Department if you are invited to move forward to an Oral Board.

In addition to the minimum qualifications listed, the following minimum qualifications apply to lateral entry officers: Must have been employed as full-time law enforcement officers with a civilian law enforcement agency within the last twenty-four (24) months. That employment must have lasted a minimum of one year. Applicants shall have successfully completed probation and possess current basic certification upon application from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC), which can be obtained by successfully completing the WSCJTC Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

To ensure police department employees embody the core values of the department, job offers are extended contingent upon passing a comprehensive and in-depth personal background and employment investigation. This includes completing a Personal History Statement "PHS", polygraph examination, and a psychological evaluation. This can also include, but is not limited to: interviews with personal and professional acquaintances; review of online/social media presence; review and verification of personal and professional records such as: criminal history checks, fingerprints, credit checks, IRS tax statements, military records, school transcripts, driving abstracts, and Department of Licensing records.
