Job summary

County of Maui – Police Department seeks an entry-level Police Officer I trainee. Performs a variety of law enforcement and related duties under supervision, with comprehensive training provided. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid license, and ability to learn laws and procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• License: valid motor vehicle operator's license (Type 3).
• Knowledge of community demographics and Maui geography.
• Ability to learn and explain laws, ordinances, rules and policies; follow instructions.
• Special working conditions: irregular hours and exposure to hazards.

Responsibilities

• Patrol duties and traffic enforcement under supervision.
• Assist in investigations and prepare reports.
• Process suspects: fingerprinting and photographing; maintain logs.
• Provide information to the public; issue citations and assist at desk.
• Transport prisoners and assist in jail and related duties.
