Job summary

Indiana University Health, Inc. is seeking a part-time security officer for Paoli Hospital onsite. The role involves patrolling properties, responding to calls, enforcing hospital rules, and maintaining a safe healthcare environment.

You will de-escalate tense situations, investigate incidents, and complete written reports as required. Requires a High School Diploma or GED, 0-3 years of relevant experience, Indiana driver's license, and successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy

Qualifications

• 0-3 years of relevant security experience preferred.
• Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
• Successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or II training within 1 year of appointment.
• Must pass background check, drug screen, and psychological exam.

Responsibilities

• Conducts rounding and patrols of IU Health properties.
• Responds to calls for service and enforces hospital rules and state statutes.
• Provides direction to team members, guests and patients; de-escalates tense situations.
• Prevents safety incidents and investigates criminal activity and crashes when needed.
• Maintains records, logs and written reports; performs security screenings.
• Creates a safe healthcare environment and performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Part -Time Rotating Shift (6pm - 6am OR 6am - 6pm)

Department Supported: Public Safety

Work Location: Paoli Hospital (Onsite)

Primary Responsibilities

• Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased or occupied by IU Health.
• Responds to calls for service.
• Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes.
• Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients.
• Assists teams with de‑scalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations.
• Proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents.
• Responds to and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed.
• Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required.
• Performs physical security screening as required.
• Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients and guests.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.

Candidate Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
• Requires successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II training within one (1) year after appointment as a police officer.
• Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
• Must not have convictions for felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor offenses.
• Must be able to pass a pre‑employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
• Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
• Have never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
• Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.

Benchmarks

• 3 months - Achieve understanding of the initial job roles.
• 6 months - Utilizing time to ensure safety and security.
• 12 months - Competent in identifying new areas to improve safety and security.
