Job Summary

Under general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, a state-certified Law Enforcement Officer enforces the laws of South Carolina, municipal codes as applicable, and federal laws related to properties of the Greenville Health Authority. Performs all duties of a police officer, applying problem-solving techniques to support community policing and protect life and property. Responds to calls, reports findings, takes appropriate action, patrols assigned areas, assists with crime scene security and processing, conducts follow-up investigations, and supports prosecution of criminal cases. Acts as liaison between the Police Department and the campus community, building rapport with staff, patients, and visitors. Makes court appearances, serves warrants/subpoenas, and handles property and evidence. Investigates auto accidents and directs traffic as needed.

Note: The Greenville Health Authority Police Department does not participate in the South Carolina Police Officer Retirement System (SC PORS). GHA Police Officers are offered a matching 457B plan through Prisma Health as a retirement savings plan.

Job Description
Essential Functions

  • Patrol assigned areas to detect and deter criminal activity, maintaining a visible presence and building community relations.
  • Investigate complaints and criminal activity, interview witnesses and victims, collect evidence, and assist victims with reporting.
  • Complete all reports accurately and timely, ensuring clarity and grammatical correctness.
  • Respond to and investigate collisions, perform traffic control, enforce traffic laws, and address citizen traffic complaints.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the public, dispatch, and fellow officers, maintaining proper radio etiquette.
  • Operate department vehicles safely, maintain duty gear and equipment, and follow officer safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, or higher authority.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience.
Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and proof of auto insurance.
  • South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class I Law Enforcement Officer Certification or equivalent from another state (with no more than three years of break in service).
  • International Association of Hospital Security and Safety certification preferred, to be obtained within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic computer skills including word processing.
  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier).
  • Mathematical skills.
