Job Summary
Performs general law enforcement duties, including but not limited to enforcing laws, hospital policies and procedures, and protecting hospital staff, patients, visitors, persons, and property.
Essential Functions

- Patrols assigned areas to detect and apprehend criminal activity, maintaining a highly visible presence as both a deterrent and community outreach. Conducts foot patrols, builds positive relations, and enforces laws to protect the public and Prisma Health property.
- Investigates complaints and criminal activity, interviewing witnesses, victims, and participants. Collects evidence, assists victims, and keeps updated on recent criminal reports.
- Completes reports and documentation accurately and timely, ensuring clarity and grammatical correctness.
- Responds to and investigates collisions as required.
- Performs traffic control and enforcement duties, responding to citizen complaints and participating in enforcement activities.
- Maintains clear, professional communication with the public, dispatch, and colleagues, utilizing proper radio etiquette and maintaining contact with supervisors.
- Operates department vehicles safely, maintains duty gear and equipment, and adheres to officer safety practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, or director.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice preferred.
- At least two (2) years of experience.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
- Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and proof of auto insurance.
- South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class I Law Enforcement Officer Certification or equivalent from another state (with no more than three years break in service).
- Certification through International Association of Hospital Security and Safety preferred, to be obtained within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills, including word processing.
- Knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier).
- Mathematical skills.
