Job description

Job Summary

Performs general law enforcement duties, including but not limited to enforcing laws, hospital policies and procedures, and protecting hospital staff, patients, visitors, persons, and property.

Essential Functions

  • Patrols assigned areas to detect and apprehend criminal activity, maintaining a highly visible presence as both a deterrent and community outreach. Conducts foot patrols, builds positive relations, and enforces laws to protect the public and Prisma Health property.
  • Investigates complaints and criminal activity, interviewing witnesses, victims, and participants. Collects evidence, assists victims, and keeps updated on recent criminal reports.
  • Completes reports and documentation accurately and timely, ensuring clarity and grammatical correctness.
  • Responds to and investigates collisions as required.
  • Performs traffic control and enforcement duties, responding to citizen complaints and participating in enforcement activities.
  • Maintains clear, professional communication with the public, dispatch, and colleagues, utilizing proper radio etiquette and maintaining contact with supervisors.
  • Operates department vehicles safely, maintains duty gear and equipment, and adheres to officer safety practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, or director.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of experience.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and proof of auto insurance.
  • South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class I Law Enforcement Officer Certification or equivalent from another state (with no more than three years break in service).
  • Certification through International Association of Hospital Security and Safety preferred, to be obtained within six months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing.
  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier).
  • Mathematical skills.
