Job Summary

Performs general law enforcement duties, including but not limited to, enforcing laws, hospital policies and procedures, and protecting hospital staff, patients, visitors, persons, and property.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's values: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

  • Patrols assigned areas to detect and apprehend criminal activity. Maintains a highly visible presence while on patrol as both a deterrent to criminal activity and an outreach to the public. Conducts foot patrols, builds positive community relations, and provides visual deterrence. Enforces applicable laws to protect the public and Prisma Health property.

  • Investigates complaints and criminal activity thoroughly, interviewing witnesses, victims, and participants. Collects physical and photographic evidence. Assists victims with reporting. Keeps updated on recent criminal activity reports.

  • Completes reports and documentation accurately and promptly, ensuring clarity and grammatical correctness.

  • Responds to and investigates collisions as required.

  • Performs traffic control and enforcement of traffic laws. Initiates field activity and enforcement actions. Responds to citizen traffic complaints and participates in traffic enforcement activities.

  • Communicates clearly, professionally, and concisely with the public, dispatch, and colleagues. Uses proper radio etiquette, maintains communication with supervisors, and checks messages regularly.

  • Operates department vehicles safely, maintains duty gear and equipment, and follows officer safety practices. Reports unsafe conditions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework in criminal justice preferred.

  • Two (2) years of experience.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and proof of auto insurance.

  • South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Class I Law Enforcement Officer Certification or equivalent from another state (with no more than three years' break in service).

  • Certification through International Association of Hospital Security and Safety preferred; must be obtained within six months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills including word processing.

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax, copier).

  • Mathematical skills.
