Job summary

Montgomery County Police Department is seeking motivated individuals for Police Officer Candidate sessions, with August 2027 academy intake. Current Cadets may apply. Successful candidates receive a $20,000 hiring bonus and undergo comprehensive training at a state-of-the-art facility.

No prior law enforcement experience is required. The program includes six months of recruit training followed by three months of field training, with opportunities across six districts and 50+ specialized units.

Qualifications

• Experience: No previous experience in law enforcement is required.
• Education: Graduation from High School
• Other: Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident and an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces with pending citizenship; and be at least twenty-one (21) years old as of first day of employment.

Responsibilities

• Patrolling a designated area to preserve the peace and prevent crime.
• Directing traffic at pedestrian crossings and street intersections.
• Enforcing motor vehicle operating and parking regulations.
• Performing communication functions.
• Conducting preliminary investigations at crime scenes.
• Administering first aid.
• Gathering evidence.
• Obtaining witnesses.
• Making arrests.
• Testifying in court.

Responsibilities

• patrolling a designated area in the county to preserve the peace and to prevent and discover the commission of crime

• Employees work varying shifts and may be called upon to work irregular hours.

Qualifications

• Experience: No previous experience in law enforcement is required.


• Education: Graduation from High School


• Other: Be a U. S. citizen or a permanent legal resident of the United States and an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces who has applied to obtain United States citizenship and the application is still pending approval; and not less than twenty-one (21) years old as of the anticipated first day of employment as a sworn Police Officer.
