This is a Peace Officer Position. Under general supervision of the Exposition Police Sergeant, Exposition Police Officers will perform the duties of an operational Peace Officer [Penal Code 830.3(r] at Exposition Park as well as during all other held and operated on the facility grounds. Incumbent will provide and assist in the safety and security of staff, vendors, contractors and the general public through the enforcement of all laws and regulations and to conduct and complete other related duties for the orderly operation of the facilities and grounds as set forth in Section 4108 of the Food and Agricultural Code.

Incumbents are trained and designated as sworn Peace Officers. Their authority extends statewide (on or off duty). They patrol park grounds by vehicle, bicycle, and foot patrol; enforce park regulations and issue citations; write reports; make physical arrests for misdemeanors, felonies, and warrants; conduct criminal and administrative investigations; take command in emergencies; perform search and rescue activities; provide emergency medical assistance and aid; and may also perform traffic control and radio dispatching.

Incumbents are required to use protective equipment. The equipment includes various types of firearms, batons, chemical agents, and handcuffs. Incumbents are regularly trained and tested in physical defensive tactics and firearms use.

Department Information The Office of Exposition Park Management (OEPM) is a state department within the California Natural Resources Agency, under the direction of a General Manager, appointed by the Governor. Exposition Park is a 160-acre state property in the heart of Los Angeles, south of downtown. The Park serves millions of visitors annually and is home to a collection of world-class museums, educational and sport facilities, and entertainment venues and open space publicly accessible to over half a million individuals who live within a three-mile radius, and to the millions of residents in the greater Los Angeles area.

The Office of Exposition Park Management's (OEPM) Mission is to provide long-term executive leadership in the development and implementation of park usage policy and day-to-day management, operation, and promotion of Exposition Park for its tenants and the public. In addition to their park-wide supervisory and administrative role, OEPM is supported by three branches : Department of Public Safety; Business and Public Affairs; and Administration and Operations, including fiscal operations.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :

Current POST Basic Course Completion Certification and / or Current POST

  • Basic Certification or greater (POST Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Management)
  • Minimum Age - 21 by time of appointment.
  • Employment Eligibility - Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law
  • Driver's License - Possession of a valid California driver's license by time of appointment
  • Education - Some college preferred, Completion of 12th grade required.
  • Hearing - Sufficient to perform the essential job functions
  • Vision- Corrected visual acuity of 20 / 20 in each eye and uncorrected visual acuity of 20 / 40 or better in each eye
