The Board of Police Commissioners for the City of Woodstock is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Testing is being conducted for current and future hiring needs.

Summary:

Woodstock, the historic seat of McHenry County, located 47 miles northwest of Chicago on the Metra rail line, seeks dedicated public servants to establish a Police Officer Eligibility List. The list will be valid for two (2) years or until exhausted.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Citizenship/Work Authorization: Must be a U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, lawful permanent resident, or legally authorized to work in the US and to possess a firearm under federal law.
  • Driver's License: Valid license with a good driving record; ability to obtain an Illinois or Wisconsin Driver's License after 18 months of probation.
  • Age Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old by 4/23/2025; under 35 unless exempt by law.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Character: No felony convictions; of good moral character.
  • Testing: Able to complete all testing stages successfully.
  • Residency: Must reside within specified boundaries after 18 months of employment.
  • P.O.W.E.R. Card: Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card at hire.
  • Lateral Transfers: Certified officers with 2+ years of service should visit the city website for more info.

Examination Process:

Initial testing by McHenry County Consortium on May 10, 2025, may include exams, inventories, and qualification reviews. Successful candidates will be invited to complete the department's application.

The selection process may include qualification reviews, interviews, background checks, medical exams, drug screening, polygraph, and psychological assessments. A conditional employment offer is contingent upon passing these steps.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting at $72,959.00, progressing to $114,608.00 at the 8th step. Includes a $850 uniform allowance, holiday pay, and comprehensive benefits.

A $25 non-refundable fee was paid prior to testing; fees will be reimbursed upon hire.
