The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility with multiple levels of care and multiple shifts available.

Job Description

This is an hourly position and is in the Unit 2 Bargaining Unit, with a pay range of 10 on the Unit 2 Pay Range Schedule. Working hours are 1st Shift: 6:00am-2:00pm | 2nd Shift: 2:00pm-10:00pm | 3rd Shift: 10:00pm-6:00am. Assigned shift will depend on Unit 2 contract/current canvas. Days & Hours May Vary According to Operational Needs.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Protect lives & property, prevent crime & enforce criminal & traffic laws. Patrol grounds & buildings in car & on foot. Investigate & report criminal activities & administrative violations. Apprehend & detain violators & appear in court as required.
  • Respond to all emergency & urgent situations (e.g., fire & security alarms, assists with firefighting, medical emergencies). Direct emergency procedures & notify appropriate authorities.
  • Complete reports, maintain logs, records, files & collect data. Operate computers & other equipment (i.e., UHF, VHF & MARCS radios); demonstrate proficiency with speed detection equipment.
  • Perform security duties daily & at special events, assist in planning & traffic control, and coordinate safety plans.
  • Provide work direction of personnel on assigned shift. Participate on committees, attend meetings & training.
  • Train new & current employees.
  • Perform additional routine administrative tasks relative to Police Division.

Qualifications

Possession of certificate having successfully completed approved basic peace officer training program or completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer; valid driver's license. Probationary period is one year. Note: Applicant must be able to successfully perform Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program (OPOTC) Fitness Testing Entry Standards for New Recruits.
