Qualifications

• Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Minnesota Peace Officer and have a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
• Successful completion of hiring examination and background check.
• Successful completion of the department’s Field Training Program.
• Four year degree in Law Enforcement or related field.
• Previous law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs car or foot patrol, investigations, traffic, emergency response and other law enforcement activities during an assigned shift.
• Participates in Police Officer training and public safety preparedness programs.
• Maintains proficiency and safety awareness with firearms, less-lethal devices, and communication equipment.
• Engages with the community and participates in public relations programs.
• Completes reports and communications as required by laws and departmental rules.
• Supports organization effectiveness by promoting positive public safety attitudes.
• Assists attorneys in prosecution efforts and testifies in court as needed.
• Maintains awareness of public safety and informs citizens of risks and hazards.
• Reports on weather, accidents, and other conditions affecting safety.

Performs car or foot patrol, investigations, traffic, emergency response and other law enforcement activities during an assigned shift. Includes, but is not limited to handling citizen complaints, information and assistance requests, disputes, crime deterrence, nuisance calls, emergency care, arrests, property recovery, animal control, accident investigation, first aid, etc.2. Participates in Police Officer training and public safety preparedness programs. Includes maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local laws and regulations related to police performance.3. Establishes and maintains proficiency and safety awareness with firearms, less-lethal devices, motor vehicles, communication equipment and other public safety equipment. Includes maintenance of assigned and departmental equipment and periodic qualifications.4.
