Job summary

The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Police Officer in the Campus Police Department. The Police Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of the Virginia Code.
• Ability to obtain authorization to carry a firearm.
• Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Virginia DCJS is preferred.
• Virginia DCJS certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Working knowledge of the Virginia Code.
• Ability to obtain authorization to carry a firearm.
• Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is preferred.

Licensure/Certification

• Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Officer certification is preferred.

Compensation

• Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to stand and sit for extended periods; walk and drive regularly; use both hands for routine and emergency tasks; bend, stoop, twist, and climb stairs and ladders; and lift or move heavy objects as needed to perform essential job functions.

Additional Requirements

Background checks, physicals, and drug testing will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.

Location

This position is based in Wise, Virginia, situated in the far southwestern corner of the state near the Kentucky and Tennessee borders.

Salary

$46,000 - $52,000; depending on qualifications and experience.
