Job description

IMPORTANT!

Sworn Law Enforcement position which involves the protection of life and property, crime prevention, law enforcement, investigation, traffic accident handling, and public assistance.

Note: Two candidates will start immediately upon passing background checks and testing, with an anticipated start date in late July 2025. Preference is given to certified or certifiable police officers. Lateral transfer candidates are encouraged to apply, with pay and vacation based on experience, education, and skills, subject to approval. An eligibility list will be established.

  1. Patrol assigned sectors on foot or by vehicle.
  2. Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, warnings, or other actions.
  3. Direct traffic and investigate accidents.
  4. Report street, sign, curb, sidewalk, and visibility conditions.
  5. Take actions to ensure public safety.
  6. Employ problem-solving strategies.
  7. Assist the community as needed.
  8. Investigate wanted/missing persons and property.
  9. Investigate crimes and citizen complaints.
  10. Search and preserve evidence.
  11. Apprehend violators.
  12. Transport persons in custody.
  13. Conduct interviews and interrogations.
  14. Prepare reports and legal cases.
  15. Serve warrants and legal documents.
  16. Perform security checks.
  17. Represent the department publicly as assigned.
  18. Assist colleagues, especially during absences.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Age 18+
  • US Citizen
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions
  • Veterans: proof of honorable discharge (DD214 required)
  • Vision 20/40 corrected
  • Effective communication in English, orally and in writing
  • Valid driver’s license without restrictions or with correctable restrictions
  • Ability to operate a vehicle under various conditions
  • Residency as per labor agreements
  • Credible court testimony
  • Cooperative and harmonious work attitude
  • Pass physical and psychological exams
  • Physical and mental fitness for duties including firearms, restraint, pursuit, emergency rescue, and communication
  • Legal ability to possess firearms
  • Certification or certifiability as a police officer (completion of 720-hour academy program)
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Obtain 60 college credits within 5 years of employment
  • Credits from a recognized university, college, or technical school
