Job Summary
The Campus Police Officer is a member of the campus police force, which serves and protects the college community. The Officer is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of persons and property; identifying potential security and safety hazards; being observant and responding to potential criminal activity on campus; maintaining good public relations by assisting others as a source of information and direction; controlling and regulating traffic and parking as needed; and investigating all security, safety, and traffic incidents.
Required Qualifications
Certification as a law enforcement officer or the ability to complete basic law enforcement school as required by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Must be 21 years of age by completion of law enforcement certification. A valid driver’s license is required. Computer knowledge including software systems used in the department. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and sound decision-making.
Additional Considerations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate well with a variety of people. Demonstrated ability to make sound independent decisions. Knowledge of the law and University policy. Prior University police experience in law enforcement or related areas.
Hiring Range
Hiring Range Minimum Salary: $46,051, Pay Band 3b
