Officers maintain a safe environment, enforce rules, patrol, investigate, document, and respond to incidents. They monitor alarms, react to violence, and serve as first responders, armed with a firearm. They oversee shift operations and provide instructions to staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Handle evidence for investigations.
  • Respond to violence, potentially deploying deadly force as per policy.
  • Properly handle and deploy firearms.
  • Issue PA state citations using law enforcement applications.
  • Investigate incidents reported by staff, visitors, physicians, and patients.
  • Transport individuals in custody.
  • Serve legal documents like warrants and subpoenas.
  • Function as shift supervisor when needed.
  • Assist at various UPMC facilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of MPOETC basic training (Act 120) or equivalent, or federal law enforcement training, or military police training, or five years law enforcement experience involving firearm use.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Psychological and physical fitness to handle stress and physical demands.
  • Background check clearance.
  • Availability for all shifts.
  • Ability to wear a bulletproof vest and perform security duties.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 235 certification with firearms training, prior to hire.
  • Meet audio-visual standards for Act 235.
  • BLS or CPR certification.
  • Driver's License.
  • Pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standards.
  • Additional acts and clearances as listed.
