POLICE OFFICERNow Accepting ApplicationsThe Oswego Police Department intends to establish a Police Officer Eligibility List (Register) with candidates interested in growing with our community, who come from diverse backgrounds to strengthen our community-oriented approach to policing, and who are up to the challenge of approaching each day as an opportunity to do things better. Police Officers are responsible for enforcing all State and Local Laws and upholding the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions.
SALARY
The starting salary as of January 1, 2026 is $82,687.50. Those meeting lateral qualifications could start anywhere from $93,075.06 to $ 124,237.73 , depending on years of experience.
BENEFITS

Uniforms/equipment are provided. Officers may workout on duty at our state-of-the-art facility, which includes an indoor range, fitness & mat room and more.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Must be under 35 years of age at time of hire, unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioners' Act
- Must be at least 21 years of age as of July 26, 2025
- Illinois FOID Card and Social Security Number at time of hire
- Must be a United States Citizen and have a Valid Driver's License by July 26, 2025
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent by July 26, 2025
- Pass written examination, oral interview, in-depth background investigation, which includes a polygraph
- After background approval or conditional job offer, must pass Medical (includes drug screen) and Psychological examinations
- MUST HAVE A POWER CARD (From NIPSTA, Joliet Junior College, etc.) not older than one year at time of Orientation on July 26, 2025

NEXT STEP IN TESTING PROCESS ONCE APPLICATION & FEE IS SUBMITTED
- MUST ATTEND MANDATORY ORIENTATION AND WRITTEN EXAMINATION, which will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 8:00AM - Oswego East High School (Door #2), 1525 Harvey Road, Oswego, Illinois (there are NO make-up dates for the orientation or written examination).
- Applicants must have photo identification, which can be a State ID, Driver's License or Passport
- Applicants MUST ALSO provide a POWER Card when checking in at Orientation
- Dress comfortably for the orientation and written examination
