Job summary

The Wilton Police Department is seeking Patrol Officers who are motivated to serve a close‑knit community and protect residents through proactive, community‑oriented policing.

You will investigate crimes, enforce traffic laws, respond to emergencies, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and participate in outreach events. A High School Diploma and valid driver’s license are required, with formal law enforcement training preferred including Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Community policing and building positive relationships with residents.

• Traffic enforcement, patrolling neighborhoods, and answering calls and complaints
• Use radar to control traffic speed in community and issue citations.
• Responding to emergencies and incidents within the community.
• Participating in community events and outreach programs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of the buildings, roads and infrastructure of the Town, and surrounding areas.
• Knowledge of modern principles and practices of police work.
• Ability to act professionally in high pressure situations.
• Ability to analyze quickly and subjectively to determine course of action.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
• Ability to develop skills with firearms and motor vehicles.
• High School Diploma required, and formal training in Law Enforcement preferred. Consideration will be based on a combination of training and experience. o Expected to attend and complete the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
• Required: Valid Driver’s License.
