Position Information

The selected candidate will be required to work 12-hour rotating shifts. Night, weekend, and holiday work is required.
Hours per Week 40 Months per Year 12 Purpose of Position
The university police officer is a member of the University Police Department, which serves and protects the campus community.
The officer is responsible for maintaining a positive relationship with the university community; maintaining a secure environment; mitigating safety hazards; being observant and responding to actual and suspected criminal activity on campus; controlling and regulating traffic; and investigating security, safety, crime, and traffic incidents.
The university police officer is dedicated to educating, mentoring, and contributing to the success of the university community.
Primary Responsibilities
The incumbent is a sworn peace officer with primary responsibility for protecting life and property at Northern Kentucky University. Examples of responsibilities required to complete this task include, but are not limited to:
Communicating with supervisors, peers, and all stakeholders in a courteous, culturally-adroit manner that models the University Police core values, while providing an outstanding customer service experience.
Patrolling assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle;
Promptly, clearly, and concisely completing a variety of written incident, offense, and ancillary reports in a grammatically correct manner and in accordance with established best practices;
Responding to emergency alarms and dispatched calls for service;
Observing and responding to actual and suspected criminal activity;
Deterring crime and arresting violators as prescribed by Kentucky Revised Statutes.
Qualifications
University Police thrive on student safety and success. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. In addition, the candidate will have positive work and/or life experiences interacting and building strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and communities. Officers must also be willing to listen, learn, and seek opportunities to teach while actively supporting and upholding the mission and values of Northern Kentucky University.
