Job description

Job Summary

The Police Officer for the Moapa River Indian Reservation is responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing laws and Tribal ordinances, and maintaining public safety within the Reservation. This position requires community-oriented policing, crime prevention, investigation of criminal activities, and response to emergency calls. The Police Officer will work closely with Tribal members, providing law enforcement services while respecting and upholding the values, traditions, and sovereignty of the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians.

Duties
  1. Patrol the Reservation to deter and detect criminal activity and ensure public safety.
  2. Enforce local, Tribal, state, and federal laws.
  3. Investigate crimes, accidents, and incidents; gather evidence, interview witnesses, and write detailed reports.
  4. Respond to emergency calls, medical incidents, traffic accidents, and disturbances.
  5. Make arrests, issue citations, and transport offenders when necessary.
  6. Participate in court hearings by providing testimony and presenting evidence.
  7. Engage with the community through outreach programs, public safety education, and maintaining positive relationships with Tribal members.
  8. Collaborate with Tribal, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies when necessary.
  9. Maintain proficiency in firearms, defensive tactics, and use of force procedures.
  10. Attend and complete all required training, including ongoing professional development and compliance with legal updates.
Minimum Requirements
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  3. POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification required or the ability to obtain certification within a specified period.
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license.
  5. Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact respectfully with a diverse community.
  7. Physical fitness required for law enforcement duties, including the ability to chase and apprehend suspects.
