Summary
This position will serve as a Police Officer for The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) in Murfreesboro, TN and/or Nashville, TN. The Police Officer will perform a full range of police duties by following and executing rules, regulations, or procedures covering law and rules enforcement, physical and personal security operations, patrol duties, control desk duty, coordination with local courts, and crime prevention activities for the local jurisdiction.

Duties
Major Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Protects the civil rights of all individuals on VA controlled property;
- Prevents, detects, and investigates crimes;
- Patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle;
- Subdues persons causing disturbance or who threaten harm to themselves or others;
- Follows rules/procedures concerning search and seizure of evidence and contraband;
- Obtains search and arrest warrants;
- Arrests violators;
- Provides basic first aid and CPR prior to arrival of emergency medical personnel;
- Prepares reports of activities and events that occurred during shift;
- Performs traffic control; and
- Assists citizens in emergency situations.

Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to be tested results in denial of employment.

Work Schedule: Compressed/Flexible Schedule. Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular hours, extended hours, and be temporarily assigned to other related services or locations as needed.

Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Complete all required steps, including an online assessment.
- Subject to urinalysis drug testing.
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- May be required to serve a probationary period.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Complete an online onboarding process and provide acceptable identification.
- Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program.
- Must meet Lautenberg Amendment requirements regarding firearm possession.

Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet all requirements by 06/27/2025. Experience must include at least one year of specialized law enforcement experience at the GS-5 level, involving law enforcement operations, maintaining order, and protecting life and property. Must provide detailed experience information in resume, including job title, duties, dates, and hours worked.

Driver's License: Valid, unrestricted license required; must pass physical exam.

Firearm Requirement: Must qualify with agency firearms and be able to carry firearms on duty.

Additional Conditions: Attend an 8-week training course, pass medical and psychological exams, character investigation, and ongoing qualification with firearms.

Physical & Work Conditions: Moderate to strenuous physical exertion required; work involves risks and exposure to hazards and weather conditions.

Education: No educational substitution at this grade.
