Purpose of Position |
The university police officer is a member of the University Police Department, which serves and protects the campus community.
The officer is responsible for maintaining a positive relationship with the university community; maintaining a secure environment; mitigating safety hazards; being observant and responding to actual and suspected criminal activity on campus; controlling and regulating traffic; and investigating security, safety, crime, and traffic incidents.
The university police officer is dedicated to educating, mentoring, and contributing to the success of the university community.

Primary Responsibilities |
The incumbent is a sworn peace officer with primary responsibility for protecting life and property at Northern Kentucky University. Examples of responsibilities required to complete this task include, but are not limited to:
Communicating with supervisors, peers, and all stakeholders in a courteous, culturally-adroit manner that models the University Police core values, while providing an outstanding customer service experience.
Patrolling assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle;
Promptly, clearly, and concisely completing a variety of written incident, offense, and ancillary reports in a grammatically correct manner and in accordance with established best practices;
Responding to emergency alarms and dispatched calls for service;
Observing and responding to actual and suspected criminal activity;
Deterring crime and arresting violators as prescribed by Kentucky Revised Statutes.

Additional Kentucky Law Enforcement Council requirements are as follows:
1) High school diploma or equivalent;
2) 21 years of age at the time of appointment;
3) Valid driver's license;
4) Any candidate offered this position is required to pass a thorough background check;
5) The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate competent solo patrol and investigative abilities by satisfying the knowledge and performance-based benchmarks set forth in the supervised Field Training Observation & Evaluation program.
