Purpose:

Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and properties. Enforce UPMC rules and regulations, patrol hospitals and grounds, investigate criminal activities, monitor alarms, respond to incidents, and provide customer service. Serve as a first responder to violence, armed with a firearm, and oversee shift operations, including organizing work and instructing staff.

Responsibilities:

• Handle evidence control related to criminal investigations.
• Respond to acts of violence, potentially deploying deadly force as per policy.
• Support various investigations with system-wide implications.
• Carry, handle, and deploy a firearm properly.
• Issue PA state citations using law enforcement applications.
• Investigate incidents reported by staff, visitors, physicians, and patients.
• Perform as a Security Officer when necessary.
• Escalate issues appropriately to management.
• Transport individuals under criminal arrest.
• Serve legal documents such as warrants and subpoenas.
• Support facility operations, understanding multiple site layouts and policies.
