The Dickinson Police Department in Dickinson, TX seeks a Patrol Officer to join its city police force. The role involves patrolling assigned areas, interviewing witnesses, issuing citations, responding to calls, and coordinating with fire and animal control as needed.

Responsabilités

• Patrols an assigned area to detect criminal activities, traffic and ordinance violations and hazards to life or property.
• Interviews complainants, witnesses and others to build information on a case.
• Detects violations, issues citations or warnings, and places violators in custody as appropriate.
• Responds to calls for service and analyzes evidence to determine the best handling approach.
• Determines sufficiency of evidence to justify a search and/or arrest.
• Handles suspects and prisoners according to department policy and procedure.
• Conducts preliminary accident and offense investigations and writes reports.
• Performs routine checks of prisoners in City Jail.
• Coordinates calls for service with fire, street and animal control personnel as needed.
• Participates in community-oriented programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Patrols an assigned area to detect criminal activities, suspicious circumstances, traffic and ordinance violations and hazard to life or property.
• Interviews complainants, witnesses and other individuals to establish a network of information to determine the validity of a complaint.
• Detects violations, makes violator contacts, issues citations or warnings and places violators in custody, as appropriate.
• Responds to calls for service, analyzing criminal, emergency and law violators to determine the best method of handling.
• Determines sufficiency of evidence to justify a search and/or arrest.
• Handles suspects, law violators and prisoners according to departmental policies and procedures and uses effective law enforcement techniques.
• Conducts preliminary accident and offense investigations and writes required reports.
• Conducts routine checks of prisoners confined in the City Jail.
• Coordinates calls for service with fire, street and animal control personnel, as needed.
• Participates in community-oriented programs.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of modern police methods, traffic, criminal and civil laws and regulations, departmental policies and procedures, and court systems and procedures
• Knowledge of safety regulations applicable to motorized vehicles and equipment
• Knowledge of radio communication procedures; knowledge of routine vehicle and equipment maintenance
• Ability to type at least 30 wpm and operate computer equipment
• Knowledge of City codes and ordinances
• Knowledge of the geography of the City
• Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute and operate computer equipment.

Education & Experience

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required with 60 college hours from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Must be a basic or lateral TCOLE certified Peace officer in good standing.
• A minimum of 2 years qualified street experience is preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license required.

State Mandated Requirements

• Be a US Citizen
• Have a High School diploma or GED
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Honorable Discharge from the US Military (if applicable)
• Have no convictions for any level offense involving Family Violence
• Have no Class B Misdemeanor Offense convictions within the last 10 years
• Have no Class A Misdemeanor Offense or above conviction in applicant's lifetime
• Not prohibited by State or Federal Law from operating a Motor Vehicle
• Not prohibited by State or Federal Law from possessing firearms or ammunition

Drug testing and background screening is required for all positions prior to final offer.

• Basic: $64,735.72
• Intermediate: $73,249.33
• Advanced: $81,762.95
• Master: $90,302.14
