The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Police Officer for the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. Responsibilities include law enforcement and maintaining order to ensure safety within the facility. Candidates must meet specific qualifications including experience or education requirements, and be prepared for the physical demands of the role.
This position will serve as a Police Officer at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. The Police Officer will perform a full range of police duties by following and executing rules, regulations, or procedures covering law and rules enforcement.

GS-5 Experience: You must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the federal service, involving knowledge of laws, regulations, law enforcement operations, and responsibilities for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This experience can be gained through police work, military police, law enforcement in parks or recreational environments, criminal investigations, or related fields. Experience as a security guard or corrections officer is generally not qualifying. Must be documented with job title, duties, dates, and hours per week.
OR
EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree in Police Science or a related field from an accredited institution. Transcripts must be submitted.
OR
COMBINATION: Completion of a police academy with at least 40 hours of instruction plus at least 9 months of specialized experience, with appropriate documentation.
GS-06 Grade level: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5, including duties such as maintaining order, responding to emergencies, conducting patrols, and investigations. Documentation required.
Driver's license must be valid, unrestricted, and compliant with REAL ID standards by May 7, 2025. Applicants must pass a physical exam to operate a government vehicle.
VA Police Officers are required to carry firearms, qualify regularly, and meet specific physical and medical standards, including strenuous physical activity and carrying items over 50 pounds.
Police Officer Conditions of Employment: Includes attendance at a training course, drug testing, medical and psychological evaluations, character investigation, and ongoing qualification and licensing requirements.
Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work that develops relevant skills and knowledge. Volunteer work is credited towards experience requirements.
