Job summary

The City of Brentwood is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis for candidates who have completed the CA Basic P.O.S.T. Academy.

The Brentwood Police Department is seeking highly motivated individuals who are eager to work in a city and department that prides itself on professionalism and community support. Education and Experience Guidelines -
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and graduation from a P.O.S.T. approved police academy.
  • College level course work and specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • An Associate’s degree is highly desirable.
Experience:
  • Some work experience as a California peace officer or other work experience that demonstrates a general aptitude for police work.
License or Certificate:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Possess a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate upon completion of the probationary period.
  • Additional certifications may be required for specialized assignments.

We are currently accepting applications for lateral Police Officers on a continuousbasis. This recruitment may close at any time without notice.Applicants must submit the following:

  1. City of Brentwood Employment Application.

The examination and recruitment process will include:
  1. A review of applications to determine if minimum qualifications for the position are met.
  2. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an Eligible List, which the Brentwood Police Department will use to schedule panel interviews with the leadership team.
  3. The most qualified candidates from the panel interviews will be invited to a Captain’s interview.
  4. Candidates who pass the Captain’s interview will then proceed to a polygraph examination.
  5. Top candidates from the polygraph will be selected and authorized to begin a comprehensive background investigation process.
  6. Upon successful completion of the background investigation, a conditional job offer may be extended. Candidates will then be scheduled for medical and psychological evaluations. (Final employment is contingent upon successful completion of these evaluations.)
