Job summary

The City of Ballwin is seeking a dedicated Police Officer to protect life and property, enforce laws, and maintain public order. You will patrol an assigned area, respond to calls, and participate in investigations with a focus on community safety.

Qualifications

  • Missouri First Class County (Class A POST License) required.
  • Missouri Driver's License required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Citizen of the United States and Missouri resident at time of appointment.
  • Applicant must be at least 21 years old.
  • Individuals who have interviewed with Ballwin Police Department in the last 12 months are not eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols assigned geographic area to identify and deter criminal activity and public safety hazards.
  • Arrests criminal and traffic violators, issues citations, and testifies in court as needed.
  • Conducts investigations of criminal offenses, missing persons, and public safety incidents.
  • Gathers evidence and processes crime scenes as directed.

Ensures free flow of traffic and maintains public order and safety.* May be assigned to Uniform Patrol, Patrol Support, or other specialized departmental activity.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesOne position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all tasks that may be found in positions of this class.* Answers radio calls for all types of police service.* Patrols assigned geographic area to identify and deter criminal activity and public safety hazards.* Arrests criminal and traffic violators, issues citations, and testifies in legal proceedings.* Conducts investigations of criminal offenses, missing persons, and all public safety incidents.* Conducts preliminary investigations at the scene of crimes and accidents, and administers first aid when needed.* Gathers evidence and processes crime scenes as directed.* Conducts interviews of victims or witnesses and interrogates suspects.* Testifies as a witness in court proceedings.* Investigates traffic accidents.* Writes reports of offenses, accidents, arrests, and other public safety incidents.* Directs traffic and renders first aid.* Intervenes and mediates in crisis situations and all types of disputes.* Performs building and residence security checks.* Provides high law enforcement visibility to deter crime and inspire community sense of security.* Gives information and provides assistance to motorists and the public.* Checks and reports on deficient street lights, signs, road surfaces, or other facilities that serve the public.* Establishes traffic control and police protection at the scene of incidents that may attract crowds.* Refers citizens with non-law enforcement problems to appropriate social service agencies.* Performs all other related duties as assigned.Skills, Knowledge and Abilities* Skill in vehicle operation and use of firearms.* Skill in mediation and self-defense techniques.* Knowledge of local, State, and Federal criminal law and applicable law.* Knowledge of human behavior and motivation.* Ability to communicate effectively with all types of individuals.* Ability to exercise sound judgment under stress or in crisis.* Knowledge of department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.## QualificationsEDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:* Certification as a police officer of a Missouri First Class County (Class A Post License)* Possess a Missouri Driver's License at time of appointment* High school graduate or possess a G.E.D.* Must be a Citizen of the United States and a Missouri resident at time of appointment.* Applicant must be at least 21 years of age to apply.* Individuals who have interviewed with the Ballwin Police Department in the last 12 months are not eligible to participate.
