Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington Public Safety seeks a seasoned law enforcement leader to serve as shift commander, overseeing sergeants, officers, and civilian staff. You will assign workloads, supervise training, and maintain compliance with university and departmental standards.

Responsibilities include scene command, interagency coordination, data analysis, and policy development. The role may include patrol duties and leadership of special details as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least 8 years of law enforcement experience, including 1 year in a leadership role.
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field with at least 5 years of law enforcement experience, including 1 year in a leadership role.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University on hire.

Responsibilities

• Acts as shift commander and supervises sergeants, officers, and civilian personnel; assigns work and schedules.
• Provides on-the-job training and oversight; evaluates subordinate performance for compliance with policies.
• Responds to calls for assistance, assumes scene command during critical incidents, coordinates with other jurisdictions.
• Compiles data, prepares reports, and analyzes trends to support department goals and policy.
• Plans area deployments and maintains standard operating procedures; serves on committees.
• Performs patrol duties as needed and may lead specific details (education, compliance, investigations).
