The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary seeks a Police Dispatcher to join their Campus Police Department. This role involves monitoring surveillance systems, responding to calls for assistance, and dispatching officers as needed. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, demonstrated customer service experience, and familiarity with dispatch operations. This position requires the ability to work effectively under stress in an emergency response environment.
JOB SHIFT:
M-F, 11 PM - 7 AM
JOB SUMMARY:
The Police Dispatcher is a member of the Department of Campus Police and reports to the Dispatch Supervisor. The Police Dispatcher monitors live feeds from 200 cameras, alarm systems and security systems and assists with processing of an average of 500 calls for assistance per month. The Police Dispatcher determines the nature and severity of inbound calls for assistance and takes appropriate remedial action, including dispatching Campus Peace Officers to assist, contacting Metro Louisville services as needed, and providing verbal directions, etc.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
EDUCATION:
The person in this position will have a high school diploma or GED; some college or technical school education is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
The person in this position should have some experience in dealing with the public and have demonstrable excellent “customer service” skills; must be computer literate.
Preference shall be given to graduates of the Kentucky Dept. of Criminal Justice Training's Public Safety Dispatch Academy or similar state dispatcher academies.
Five years of service as a dispatcher in a municipal or private sector environment.
SUPERVISION:
The person in this position will supervise no one.
The person in this position will report to the Dispatch Supervisor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The person in this position will work in a police department office environment. The Dispatch Supervisor at times will be asked to perform their duties under high stress situations that are typical of emergency response
EQUIPMENT:
The person in this position will use the following equipment: computers with multiple software systems, multiple phone lines, CCTV monitors, numerous alarm systems and emergency documents, 2-way radios, ID card system (Shield Card), copier, calculator, etc.
