Job summary

The Town of Bel Air Police Department is seeking a Full Time Dispatcher - Police Communications Operator to support calls for service, dispatch officers, and perform related duties. The role requires handling stressful situations calmly and professionally, with rotating day, evening, and occasional midnight shifts, totaling 40 hours per week.

Salary FY2027 ranges from $48,541 to $85,277, with opportunities to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized high school or GED.
• CAD system knowledge and experience preferred.
• Ten Code experience and dispatch experience (6 months) preferred.
• Bilingual or multilingual candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate radio equipment, receive and dispatch per departmental and FCC rules.
• Obtain detailed information on calls and dispatch to resolve quickly and safely; provide backup for officers.
• Interact with the public in a polite and professional manner.
• Operate MILES to retrieve driver licenses, registrations, warrants, missing persons, and criminal histories; update records in MILES/NCIC.
• Maintain security for all reports and NCIC entries; log all communications and related documents.
• Compose and send correspondence via MILES and NLETD; file logs and retrieve information for officers.
• Monitor fire alarms, scanner, and County-wide radio frequency.
• Screen visitors and calls; explain policies; refer to other agencies as needed.
• Complete Bel Air Police Communications Operator Training Program.
• Adapt to night, weekend, holidays, and changing shifts.
