Job summary

City of Oconomowoc is seeking an experienced police chief to provide strategic direction and oversight of the Police Department, partnering with Mayor, City Council, and City Administrator to deliver professional public safety services.

The Chief will supervise patrols, investigations, training, budgeting, and interagency cooperation with Western Lakes Fire District, while promoting accountability, community relations, and staff development.

Qualifications

• Administrative & fiscal acumen for municipal budgeting, grants, and resource allocation.
• Operational expertise in modern police management and community policing.
• Labor and personnel relations within collective bargaining frameworks.
• Public relations and intergovernmental communication with officials, media, and the public.
• Executive judgment and strategic planning under crisis conditions.
• Availability to respond to critical incidents 24/7/365.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and evaluate all police functions including patrols, traffic, and investigations.
• Oversee training, assignments and discipline of department personnel.
• Coordinate with Western Lakes Fire District and other public safety partners.
• Prepare and monitor department budget and grants.
• Serve as liaison with Mayor, Council, and City Administrator and report on resource use.
