Overview

The City of San Marino is hiring for the position of Police Cadet (Part-Time) to join the Police Department. The program introduces college students to law enforcement. Ideal candidates have strong multitasking skills, motivation, a positive attitude, results orientation, efficiency, and a passion for public service.

Department Details

The San Marino Police Department has 32 sworn officers and 11.5 civilian staff, led by a Chief of Police, two Bureau Commanders, and a Civilian Administrative Manager.

Located 12 miles from the foothill mountains in San Gabriel Valley, San Marino is a residential community known for its properties, gardens, parks, and top schools. The city offers recreational and cultural activities including hiking, museums, galleries, and shopping districts.

Job Purpose

Under supervision, a police cadet performs duties in the Records Section, Front Office, or Detective Bureau, supporting the police department.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Civilian position without peace officer powers.
Essential Functions
  • Handle reports and complaints; complete forms.
  • Issue parking permits; search case files.
  • Operate office equipment; perform clerical tasks.
  • Assist in other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of office equipment and software.
  • Ability to complete forms legibly, communicate effectively, operate office tools, respond politely to public requests, perform fingerprinting, assist with matron duties, and move between locations.
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED; enrolled in college/university with a minimum 2.00 GPA.
  • No prior law enforcement experience required.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination mandate.
Physical & Work Environment

Requires sitting, standing, walking, handling objects, climbing stairs, lifting up to 15 pounds, and working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
