Job summary

Meridian Township Police Department is seeking a police cadet to assist with routine service requests at the reception area and support officers on a daily basis. Cadets will participate in report writing for minor incidents and handle incoming phone calls, with opportunities for ride-alongs and potential sponsorship through the police academy.

Ideal candidates are currently enrolled in higher education, preferably Criminal Justice, and possess problem-solving abilities, strong communication,

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a student at an institution of higher education or at discretion of Chief of Police.
• Criminal Justice students preferred.
• Interest in law enforcement or related field.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written orders/instructions.
• Ability to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective actions.
• Ability to work courteously and professionally with the public.
• Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with fellow employees.
• United States citizen.
• Possess a valid Drivers License.

Qualifications

Police cadets get a firsthand glimpse into law enforcement in Meridian Township. Our police cadets work hand and hand with MTPD officers on a daily basis and have access to regular ride alongs. The position has been used as a precursor for sponsorship through the police academy and a gateway to full-time employment as a Meridian Township Police Officer. Though not all cadets are awarded sponsorship through the police academy, we have identified cadets that we believe embody what it means to be a Meridian Township Police Officer and awarded sponsorships and full-time positions.
