Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the Point of Care Specialist in administering the Point of Care (POC) testing program throughout the organization. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to associates, patients, physicians, and the public.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the daily operations of the POC testing program throughout Mary Washington Healthcare, under the guidance of the Point of Care Specialist.
  • Assists in training and competency of hospital Associates in technical procedures and instrument operations used in POC testing, including managing the database of operators.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new POC instrumentation and procedures to maintain state of the art laboratory performance and capability, monitoring opportunities for increased efficiency and cost containment.
  • Monitors point of care equipment and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels to ensure continuous operations.
  • Assesses and reviews competency records/CAP rosters and notifies educators for coming due competencies.
  • Troubleshoots instrument and /or POC interface issues.
  • Performs validation on new instruments.
  • Adheres to all CAP regulatory requirements, including monthly review of QC, coordinating proficiency testing, preparing new reagents for use, etc.
  • Rounds to hospital units and other sites to provide support as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology required, or Bachelor's degree with an ASCP or AMT certification for Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or eligible.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills required.
  • Exemplary interpersonal communication skills required.
