Job summary

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) at USAMRICD in Gunpowder, MD offers a one-year internship for post-bachelor’s or master's graduates. Under a mentor, you will develop and evaluate medical diagnostics for exposure to toxic chemical agents, performing electrochemical and colorimetric assays and related analytical work.

You will gain hands-on experience, access to facilities, and the chance to contribute to peer‑reviewed publications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in eligible chemistry/material sciences or engineering.
• Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
• U.S. military veterans who have been honorably discharged and who received a bachelor’s degree within ten years may be eligible.

Responsibilities

• Engage in research projects involving development and evaluation of medical diagnostics for exposure to toxic chemical agents.
• Specifically, develop point-of-care in-vitro diagnostics using electrochemical and optical techniques.
• Conduct experiments including chronoamperometry, testing medical devices, and polymer synthesis.
• Plan and execute experiments; analyze and present data for reports and manuscripts.
