Job Description

Location: Work at Home position in United States

Pay: $1.25 - $1.40 per minute, depending on time of day and interpretation level as defined by LanguageLine Solutions.

Position Overview

The Pohnpeian Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, interpreting conversations between Pohnpeian and English. The role involves breaking communication barriers across various industries such as healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, law enforcement, and emergency services.

The interpreter must process information quickly, recognize cultural nuances, maintain professionalism, and use appropriate terminology. Sessions may involve technical or sensitive subjects, requiring high accuracy and cultural sensitivity.

This is a verbal interpretation role; written translation is not involved, though translators and linguists are encouraged to apply. The position is remote, requiring a quiet, secure home environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond promptly and professionally to interpreting sessions.
• Accurately render meanings according to interpretation protocols.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation.
• Maintain professionalism and composure, especially in stressful or emotional calls.
• Be punctual and available during scheduled hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocols, avoiding unauthorized interactions with LEP clients.
• Understand industry-specific terminology and protocols.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Pohnpeian and English, with cultural competence.
• Strong listening, retention, and note-taking skills for high accuracy.
• Ability to remain neutral and objective, even with sensitive topics.
• Relevant education or experience in language fields is preferred.
• Ability to adapt to technological enhancements.
• Must be at least 18 years old, authorized to work in the US, and have high school diploma or equivalent.

• Dedicated device for work (computer, tablet, or smartphone) with specified OS and internet speeds.
