Job summary

The Podiatrist in the Podiatry Section of Surgical Care at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) reports directly to the Chief of Podiatry and is responsible for providing medical and surgical podiatric services to eligible veterans and for administering the Podiatry section.

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Degree as a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from an approved school.
• Residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to board eligibility.
• Current or future full and unrestricted podiatry license in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical and surgical podiatric services to eligible veterans.
• Administer the Podiatry section and report to the Chief of Podiatry.

Education

Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) or equivalent

Residency completed or in progress in an VA-approved core specialty

Full and unrestricted license to practice podiatry in US/DC

Job description

The Podiatrist is responsible for providing medical and surgical services to eligible veterans and administrating the section of Podiatry. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements

• Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
• Residency: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
• License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience

• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Podiatry (Foot Surgery or Foot & Ankle Surgery).
• Performs comprehensive, detailed, targeted, initial history and physical examinations in compliance with VA guidelines.
• Provides health promotion & disease prevention activities including education & decision making.
• Preferred 2+ years clinical experience.
• Knowledge of computer software programs.
• Enthusiasm for teaching.
