Responsibilities

• Perform medical history and examination of the patient.
• Assess foot, ankle & lower extremity condition and develop a treatment plan.
• Diagnose and treat disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
• Treat complex diabetic foot infections per evidence-based protocols.
• Provide general medical/surgical care for lower extremity pathology.
• Order and prescribe treatment by physical therapy.
• Advise patients about treatments and foot care to prevent problems.
• Collaborate with other medical disciplines.
• Work in external facilities such as hospitals and wound care centers.
• Complete all documentation promptly.
• Demonstrate organizing and time-management skills.

Essential Functions:

• Perform an appropriate medical history and examination of the patient.
• Assess patient’s Foot, Ankle & Lower Extremity condition and develop a treatment plan.
• Diagnose and treat disorders, diseases and injuries of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
• Treatment of complex diabetic foot infections in accordance with evidence – based protocols.
• General medical and surgical care of treating soft tissue or boney pathology of the lower extremity.
• Order and prescribe treatment by physical medicine and therapy.
• Advises patients about treatments and foot care techniques to prevent future problems.
• Work closely with many other medical disciplines.
• Work in external facilities such as hospitals, wound care centers, nursing homes etc.
• Completes all documentation and paperwork in a timely manner.
• Excellent organization and follow-through skills, attention to detail and the ability to work within time constraints.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with the computer.
• Ability to self-direct.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Education and Work Experience:

• Doctoral degree in Podiatric Medicine.
• Current State of Ohio DPM License

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Combination of exam rooms, medical offices, and operating room. Frequently exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 10 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stress in emergency situations and irregular hours.
