Job summary

Integrated Solutions for Systems (IS4S) is seeking a Software Engineer to develop embedded software for assured positioning, navigation, and timing (APNT) systems. The role is on-site in Auburn, AL or Huntsville, AL and focuses on navigation algorithms, sensor interfaces, and platform integration.

The ideal candidate has strong modern C++ skills, Linux software experience, and a commitment to reliable, well-tested code. Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and hardware interfaces is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Experience developing software in modern C++ including OO design and standard library usage.
• Experience building and testing software in Linux environments.
• Proficiency with Git or similar version control systems and collaboration workflows.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build/test/integration processes.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to write clean, well-documented code and communicate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded software components for APNT systems using modern C++.
• Implement navigation algorithms processing data from inertial sensors, GPS/GNSS receivers, clocks, and other sources.
• Develop and maintain interfaces to sensors, embedded hardware, and host platforms.
• Integrate software with navigation hardware and platform systems; troubleshoot interfaces.
• Create and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests to verify functionality.
• Analyze test results, investigate defects, and assist in debugging and performance optimization.
• Use Git, automated builds, and CI/CD pipelines to enable quality and repeatable development workflows.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, and navigation engineers to demonstrate APNT capabilities.

Job Description: IS4S is seeking a highly skilled andmotivated Software Engineer to support the development of embedded software forAssured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) systems working on-site in our Auburn, AL or Huntsville, AL location. The successfulcandidate will contribute to the development of navigation algorithms, sensorinterfaces, platform integration, and software testing for resilient navigationsolutions operating in challenging environments, including conditions whereGPS/GNSS may be degraded, denied, or unavailable.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the embeddedsoftware development lifecycle, from algorithm implementation and hardwareinterfacing to integration, testing, and performance evaluation. The idealcandidate has strong modern C++ programming skills, experience developingsoftware in Linux environments, and a commitment to producing reliable,maintainable, and well-tested software.

KeyResponsibilities

Develop and maintain embedded softwarecomponents for assured PNT systems using modern C++.

Implement and support navigation algorithms thatprocess data from inertial sensors, GPS/GNSS receivers, clocks, and othernavigation sources.

Develop and maintain software interfaces tosensors, embedded hardware, and host platforms.

Integrate software components with navigationhardware and platform systems, troubleshooting hardware/software interfaceissues.

Develop and execute unit, integration, andsystem-level tests to verify software functionality and performance.

Analyze test results, investigate defects, andsupport debugging and performance optimization.

Use Git-based version control, automated buildsystems, and CI/CD pipelines to support software quality and repeatabledevelopment workflows.

Collaborate with systems, hardware, andnavigation engineers to develop, integrate, and demonstrate assured PNTcapabilities.

RequiredQualifications

Bachelor’sor Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, ComputerScience, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experiencedeveloping software in modern C++, including object-oriented programming,standard library features, and sound software design practices.

Experiencedeveloping, building, debugging, and testing software in a Linux environment.

Proficiencywith Git or an equivalent modern version control system, including branching,merging, and collaborative development workflows.

Familiaritywith CI/CD pipelines and automated software build, test, and integrationprocesses.

Strongdebugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Abilityto write clear, maintainable, and well-documented software.

Strongwritten and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively ina multidisciplinary engineering team.

PreferredQualifications

Experiencewith embedded software development on Linux-based platforms.

Familiaritywith navigation algorithms, sensor fusion, inertial navigation systems (INS),GPS/GNSS, or other PNT technologies.

Experienceinterfacing with hardware using serial communications, Ethernet, SPI, I²C, CAN,or similar protocols.

Experiencewith unit testing frameworks and software quality tools, such as staticanalysis, code coverage, and automated linting.

Experiencewith CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI/CD.

Familiaritywith Python or MATLAB for algorithm prototyping, test automation, and dataanalysis.

Experiencewith hardware-in-the-loop testing, embedded system integration, or fieldtesting.
