Job summary

Sherwood Aviation in New York is seeking a Pneumatics Technician to inspect, test, repair, and overhaul aircraft pneumatic components in compliance with FAA regulations and company quality standards.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and experience with pneumatic systems, calibration, and reading maintenance manuals, with growth opportunities in a fast-paced aviation repair environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• FAA Part 145 Repair Station experience preferred.
• Knowledge of aircraft pneumatic systems, pressure regulators, valves, actuators, and related components preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and maintenance instructions.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and pneumatic testing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and reassemble aircraft pneumatic components.
• Perform functional testing of pneumatic components using approved testing equipment and procedures.
• Identify component defects, wear, damage, and malfunctions to determine necessary repairs or replacements.
• Read and interpret Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), technical drawings, schematics, and other approved maintenance documentation.
• Perform repairs and maintenance in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments, pneumatic test equipment, hand tools, and specialized aviation tools.
• Inspect components for proper operation, pressure regulation, leakage, and overall functionality.
• Document all inspections, repairs, testing, and maintenance activities accurately and completely.

The Pneumatics Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling aircraft pneumatic components in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience working with aircraft pneumatic systems and components in a fast‑paced aviation repair environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect, disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and reassemble aircraft pneumatic components.
• Perform functional testing of pneumatic components using approved testing equipment and procedures.
• Identify component defects, wear, damage, and malfunctions to determine necessary repairs or replacements.
• Read and interpret Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), technical drawings, schematics, and other approved maintenance documentation.

• Work closely with Quality Control, Production, and other departments to ensure timely completion of repairs.
• Identify opportunities to improve repair processes, efficiency, and product quality.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

Skills and Education Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous experience in aviation maintenance, pneumatic component repair, or a related mechanical field preferred.
• Experience working in an FAA Part 145 Repair Station preferred.
• Knowledge of aircraft pneumatic systems, pressure regulators, valves, actuators, and related components preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and maintenance instructions.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and pneumatic testing equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and established maintenance procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification is a plus but not required, provided the employee performs work within the authorization and supervision requirements applicable to the position.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand or sit at a bench for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting
• Ability to work in a shop environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to mechanical equipment
